What are post-compulsory level students?

Post-compulsory students are those who have finished compulsory education and have decided to continue studying.

There are different types of post-compulsory levels, such as professional training courses, baccalaureate programs, intermediate level training cycles and higher level training cycles.

Post-compulsory students are usually between 16 and 18 years old, although they can also be older.

Vocational training courses aim to prepare students for the world of work, while baccalaureates focus on academic training.

The intermediate level training cycles correspond to compulsory secondary education and the higher level ones to post-compulsory education.

Students at post-compulsory levels (high school, vocational training, special regime education and language education) can obtain scholarships and grants to cover tuition, books, transportation and living expenses, among others. The scholarships are cash grants that do not have to be repaid, while the grants are loans that must be paid once the studies are finished.

To apply for a scholarship or aid, students must submit an application at the educational center where they are going to study. Applications are evaluated based on family income and financial situation. Students who cannot meet the tuition fees and other expenses related to their studies can apply for a scholarship or a grant.
